Zulu Falls


Zulu Falls is a rustic thornveld lodge overlooking the majestic Mooi River falls in Middelrus, KZN. We offer reasonably-priced self-catering accommodation in an unspoilt bush environment that will allow you to relax and rejuvenate.

When you book Zulu Falls, the entire lodge is yours for the duration of your booking, and the facilities and farm are exclusively for your enjoyment. That makes it perfect for families and friends looking for a relaxed and affordable get together. We do not offer camping, nor do we allow day visitors.

Accommodation

Our accommodation is split across 7 rooms located in different thatched rondavels and units.

    • Walk to the Zulu Falls viewpoint
    • A 2km circular route to the Elenjane Falls viewpoint
    • A much longer walk to the gorge viewpoint above the Hidden Valley
  • Game walks and game drives – the farm has stable populations of giraffe, zebra, impala, wildebeest, blesbuck, and kudu.

  • Fishing for yellowfish is available for the intrepid who want to brave the descent into the gorge

Note that we are not close to any restaurants, and the nearest grocery store is in Mooi River.

Rates and pricing

The entire Zulu Falls lodge and facilities are rented out exclusively to you when you book with us – we don’t book on a room-by-room basis. We have the following baseline requirements:

  • A minimum nightly fee of R2,500 for the lodge
  • All stays must be a minimum of 2 nights
  • If your stay is over a long weekend, the minimum stay is 3 nights

Here is the pricing breakdown:

  • 4 or fewer adults: R2,500/night
  • 5-8 adults: R450/person/night
  • 9 or more adults: R400/person/night

Kids 5-12: R250/person/night
Kids under 4: No charge

There is a minimum R150/day tip for each of the two domestic staff who work during your stay. This is payable in cash to the staff on your departure day.

Other important info

Vodacom and Cell C signal is weak but available. However, MTN coverage is very limited.

The internal dirt roads are better suited to high clearance vehicles, but 4x4s are not essential.

Zulu Falls is fully self-catering, and there are no restaurants or shops nearby.

The facilities and amenities are basic – this is not a fancy shmancy place! The charm of Zulu Falls lies in its rustic simplicity and stunning setting.
